Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist

Mission Statement: We, the members of the Ministry of the Holy Eucharist, dedicate our efforts to assist at liturgy, hospitals, homebound and nursing homes in order to better serve our parish, Most Precious Blood. By our ministry, we aspire to draw closer to our Lord.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist undertake the service of distirbuting the Body and Blood of Christ to their brothers and sisters of Most Precious Blood of Christ.  Some ministers also distribute the Eucharist to parish members who are confined to home, hositals, or nursing homes.

In order to be a Extraordinary Minister, one must be a registered member of Most Precious Blood Parish, be at least 18 years old, have received the Sacraments of Baptism Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation.  If married, one must have been married in the Catholic Church.  The candidate is also expected to lead a Christian life style, participate in Church life, and be in harmony with all of the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Enrollment for this ministry is held during Ministry Weekend which is held during the early fall season.  At other times of the year, the Coordinator for Extraordinary Ministers may be contacted (name and number in the Parish Bulletin).  After enrollment, the candidate must participate in a group spiritual meeting with the parish Pastor and three training sessions with the Coordinator.  After training, the new minister is scheduled for services for the masses, nursing home, hospital and/or homebound.  New ministers are expected to serve whenever they are scheduled for service.  They are also expected to serve on Holy Days of obligation and other special liturgies.

As an Extraordinry Minister of the Holy Eucharist, our Heavenly Father allows us ot share in a ministry that we could not deserve and would not dare to ask for on our own.  With the help of the Holy Spirit, we are allowed to share in this heavenly worship.
