Liturgical Ministries

Lay ministers at MPB are active as Ushers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, and Altar Servers.  Their dedicated participation greatly enhances the reverent celebration of the Mass.  Serving in these ministries is an excellent way to give generously of one's time and talent to the parish.  Parishioners willing to serve as liturgical ministers are invited to attend one of the Ministry Workshops, which are held periodically and are advertised in the bulletin.

For more information, please contact the parish office.

Below are just a few of the many activities that are part of liturgical ministries ...

Leading Rosary Before Mass

Individuals of families volunteer to lead the rosary prior to the evening Daily Mass at 5 pm and prior to 10:30 am Masses when scheduled.  Please contact the parish office if you are interested.

Altar Server

All youth of the parish who are in grades 3rd-12th and have received their First Holy Communion are welcome to participate in the life of our parish as an altar server.

This is a special privilege and a wonderful way to respond to God's call for service to one another.

The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest and/or deacon in the celebration of the liturgy and the Eucharist during Mass.

New servers must attend a training session which includes information on the Mass and their specific duties.

For more information, please contact Carlos Roberto Ramirez by calling the parish office at 361.854.3800.

Women's Council/Altar Society

This ministry provides the linens used during the celebration of the Eucharist.  Caring for the church and the sacred areas offers a much-needed service to the parish.  They help to purchase altar increments.  They also help with funeral meals for families of the deceased.  For more information contact Melissa De La Cruz. She can be reached by calling the parish office at 361.854.3800.

Liturgical Art & Environment

They are responsible for decorating the church at Christmas and Easter and for other liturgical celebrations as needed.

For more information, please contact Lee Bockholt at 361.854.3800.

Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist

These ministers assist in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at the Mass.  Through humble service as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, the minister is united with his fellow members of the Body of Christ.  Service inside the liturgy should make visible the faith and love the minister manifests outside the liturgy.  A two-hour training session is required.  Time commitment is variable.

For more information, contact Deacon Mark Cazalas by calling the parish office at 361-854-3800.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God during Mass in the Liturgy of the Word.  The lectors read the opening welcome, the first and the second readings. Training is provided.  Consider sharing your talents by proclaiming God's Word.

For more information, please contact Derrick Seidenberg by calling the parish office at 361.854.3800.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Our young children are led into the St. Jude Chapel at the 10:30 am and 12:30 pm masses.  The Liturgy of the Word is proclaimed to them from the Children's Lectionary and God's word is explained as it relates specifically to them.  During this time in the chapel, the children also praise God through song, and on the first Sunday of each month, the children present a song that they have learned to the congregation.

This ministry is open to men and women from high school age and up.  Ushering goes beyond seating the congregation, taking the collection, and handing out bulletins.

Ushers are responsible for knowing the flow of the Mass, as well as identifying and solving situations as they occur.

For more information, please contact Sonny Gamez by calling the parish office at 361.854.3800.

The parish Deacons are in charge of all the sacristan duties.
